Tales of a CES Noob
I have a confession to make. This is my first CES. I've always been interested in CES as a show, and for years I've watched Patrick Norton broadcast from CES, highlighting all the cool gadgets and tech, but I never thought I'd ever actually attend CES. And yet now, here I am.
Sitting in the NBC Universal booth and looking out at all the lights and huge booths, I have to admit I'm pretty overhwhelmed.
I'm an old vet at attending conferences and conventions. As a kid my Dad took me to Comdex a few times, which was my 11 year old nerd nirvana. And in recent years, I've been surviving the San Diego Comic Con while covering it for iFanboy. After being here at CES for a few hours, I can honestly say that this show puts them all to shame.
The booths are huge. They're all filled with TVs and sound systems and lights and schwag as far as the eye can see. This morning I had to swing by the CNET Live Stage, it took me about 30 minutes to navigate to it in the South Hall. After that I had to come over here to the NBC Booth in the Central hall. I still don't know how I got here or how to get back. I hope they have food here somewhere, or I may starve...
Lots of people have been asking me what cool tech I've seen or I'm trying to see. Honestly, I don't know. I'll be watching Tekzilla and Hak5 to find out what's cool at the show, along with the rest of you. For me, CES is about survival. Wish me luck.
