This might be my favorite technology so far and I'm excited to hear we'll be doing a demo of the product on today's live Tekzilla. Just a few days ago, I was whining about how messy my desk was with wires.

These guys have figured out how to control the energy by proximity using magnetic conduction, and the prices are not steep at all - $100 for the mat. This could potentially transform the way we power our kitchen appliances, the televisions in our living rooms, and perhaps eliminate the need for power adapters in your vehicle for your peripherals. Apparently, the transfer of energy is more efficient than your typical wall/plug charge.

There are several clever ways to forego the costly conference badge -- few of us work for corporations that will foot the bill for us to party and ogle at gadgets in Vegas.

For a few different social engineering tactics, check out our video, live from CES, when it gets released on Monday both here and at HackCollege. My method of choice is the press pass -- and it’ll get you into everything from movie premieres and concerts to conferences and monster truck rallys. And you might be surprised at how well you’re treated by the staff...

The essential elements of “press credentials” include three simple to create/fake but crucial elements:

Business Cards - Invest in something better than home-printing or check out the HackCollege take on business cards.

Website/blog with relevant article - They won’t let you into the Adult Entertainment Expo with your personal blog posts. Okay, I take that back. It depends.

ID - This attaches you to the bylines and the business card.

Bring your folder of credentials to the press station at the conference. If you pre-register online, you’ll likely submit the same information, but it gives them more time to look up your legitimacy. If you show up and get a pass on-site, they’ll make a snap decision -- which can work in your favor -- but there’s obviously a lot more risk.

And don't forget to check us out live on the big fancy NBC stage tomorrow at 3pm!

For those of you who tuned in to today's live Tekzilla show, you probably saw a guy in the corner of the shot who had quite the interesting perspective. Viewers shared a few chuckles, but was Ms. Belmont so amused with junior PA of HackCollege, Chris Lesinski? Find out here:

It's been tough to leave and wander around the CES conference since everything is so fast paced here, but it's kind of cool that the gadgets are coming to *me* while I sit here at the NBC Universal booth.

Matt, Darren, Shannon and Paul have these products in their hands and you'll get to see them in action LIVE in about 20 minutes - here's a preview of what's to come. Be sure to tune in:

Qwickey.com - If you hate typing in your credit card number online to buy stuff, you're going to love this little card swiper. This is soooo much better than when it was tried in the 90s, you'll see.

Waav's Airbox X2 Slide - You video distribution gurus will love this. Pay attention if you do anything related to shooting and sharing video!

Vuzix iWear - The gamers in my life will want to get their hands on this headwear that allows you to move your player in your game (Halo, anyone?!) by simply turning your head! So cool!

nPower PEG - If you have electronics on the go and walk a lot, this USB pedometer charges your phone as you get around.

SuperTalent.com - showing the "smallest" 2g flash drive... ? I'm not sure what this is all about, but you'll find out on the show.

The Hunt & Pack Keyboard - This is for the one finger typist, and I know there's a lot of you out there. ;)

This being our first ever CES we’re a little baffled by Las Vegas architecture and geometry, which seems to have been developed on a higher plane of existence then ported to Earth in an attempt to bewilder mortals.

Regardless, we’re here in Vegas doing our thing. The five of us spent the day splitting up and covering approximately 7% of the conference floor. Things are big and things are shiny. There are never to be mass market pie-in-the-sky prototypes and there are really pretty gidgets far beyond our meager hacker budgets.

The highlight of the day, aside from finally meeting face-to-face with the Revision3 kr3w, was CES adjunct Showstoppers – a small (in comparison) press event featuring neato-new-technology peppered with the obligatory are-you-fraking-kidding-me.

We* ended the night with a Day One Pow Wow. I figured it would be fun to share with you our initial thoughts on the show, our expectations and lessons learned.

*Actually everyone else is asleep while I’m up editing down HD footage to an “uploadable” format. As it turns out bandwidth is hard to come by here. I’m paying $12 for 384k! (Don’t even start Aussies).

P.S. One more lesson learned: Turn on the LED lamp when shooting wide in front of a white table using auto exposure. Yeah, my fault. I’ll ride the Fail Bus home Sunday.
